Safekeeping

summary: John creates a safe place for his sons.

John sometimes questions the wisdom of letting the boys bunk down together on the road — one room, two beds, three men, and zero privacy. When they think he’s asleep, listening to their whispers, and hushed laughter; when the childish giggling and meaningless banter and restrained horseplay turns into the breathy secret sound of kisses; when the slide of slick skin on skin can’t be ignored or mistaken for anything else; and when he can pinpoint the exact moment each of his sons reaches their climax — by Sam’s stuttering hiss, by Dean’s characteristic growl. When the sex and the lethargy make them reveal heart-secrets to each other that no other person should be privy to, especially a father.

But when he wakes in the morning to find them tangled in each other, sprawled every which way like wild dogs in a den, or cuddled and cradled in each other’s arms; when he watches them fight together, back to back, side by side, instinctively protecting the only thing in the world they can call their own: each other. He knows he’s willing to accept the lesser evil.

God help him, he thinks, but he knows: What keeps them together, keeps them safe.

This is fabulous. I love the depth that comes across in it. I haven’t been reading SPN for quite a while, but now I’m definitely going to read through your archive! (As an aside, yay for using a CC license!)

Hello and thanks! Allow me to take a few words to return the favor and say I’m well-acquainted with your Spn art — I think it’s lovely. And also awesome.

Re: Safekeeping & the archive –
I’m pleased you enjoyed it. Some of the other stuff here is… not really… a lot of it is just random self-indulgent stuff. You may find something else here that you might like, but it’s a bit of a slog. :)

    Thanks again for the comment.

And yay for yay for Creative Commons!

This. This is the only way I think John could ever justify it. I’m in awe at just what a punch you can pack into so few words. Beautifully written.

Oh wow, I’m not sure I’ve ever seen quite that angle before, where John knows but accepts it because he knows the deeper bond keeps the boys safe. I love it.
